The Mount Union Area School District continues to host a Pre K program in partnership with Huntingdon County Child and Adult Development Corporation. This initiative continues to be supported through Pre K Counts, PA Pre K Counts, and Head Start Supplemental, in addition to Title 1 funding for the 2019-2020 school year.
The planned course of instruction and assessment programs are matched to the state requirements under Chapter 4 for all our programs. The state and district benchmarks and/or local assessments have been developed or adopted to address the Pennsylvania Academic Standards. Monitoring of the program and data analysis of the results will be completed at each grade level according to descriptions outlined in our assessment action plan.c
There are a multitude of instructional resources available to teachers and students throughout the district. Some of these curricular resources include McGraw and Hill’s Open Court Reading series, new for the 2019-2020 school year in grades K-5. StudySync will be introduced in ELA classrooms within our newly configured 6-8 Junior High School. Additionally, the district will be piloting Pearson’s Elevate Science program in grades K-6. The district will continue to utilize Pearson’s enVision Math series for the fourth consecutive year in grades K-8.
The district has begun the process of mapping all of its curriculum through the utilization of CHALK. This platform allows for collaboration across grade levels, content areas, and from building to building. Additionally, with greater transparency and cohesion within specific courses, the district hopes to create a more consistent educational experience for all its students.
The district participates with after school tutoring through the 21st Century Grant. An advisor/advisee program is also in place to assist students with meeting graduation requirements. All students, both special and regular education have equal access appropriate curricular programming that meets their individual needs. The district has utilized data from DIBELS, PSSA, Keystone and CDT testing, and content specific benchmark testing to appropriately identify and meet student needs. Teachers are able to monitor progress in various areas and chart progress, mastery, and areas targeted for further interventions. By tailoring learning to individual needs, students are able to realize success and growth. We are “Proactive for Students!”
